Maybe they’re your first fur-baby, or one you share an inexplicably deep bond with. And it doesn’t even have to be a pet. Sometimes we feel strong connections with animals we encounter in nature—like the bluebird that visits your feeder each morning, or the fox you once locked eyes with as it slipped through your yard.
Whatever the connection, commissioning a needle-felted sculpture is a beautiful way to honor it. These small, realistic pieces can be displayed anywhere, serving as a meaningful keepsake you’ll treasure for years.
Here’s everything you need to know to get started with a commissioned piece from B.E. Creating.
The best way to begin a commissioned piece is to send me an email or reach out through my contact form. This is your chance to tell me all about your vision.
Let me know what kind of animal you’d like needle-felted, and send along photos from different angles if possible. I also love hearing about personality quirks or special details—these little insights help me capture the spirit of the animal and create a piece that feels true to them.
We’ll decide on the size together, which helps determine pricing. If I already have the necessary wool and materials on hand, I can begin as soon as the contract is signed and a 40% deposit is received. If materials need to be ordered, I’ll be in touch once everything has arrived and work begins.
This is where the felting begins. I carefully study your photos, paying attention to fur texture, color, and distinguishing markings. I also consider the pose we’re aiming for before building the armature and starting the sculpting process.
Example of armature and shaping:
No detail is too small. While I can’t guarantee 100% accuracy, my goal is always to create a piece that looks as realistic and true to your animal as possible.
Once the sculpture is complete, I’ll send you photos for review.
After receiving the review photos, you’ll have the opportunity to share your thoughts. Do you love it, or would you like minor adjustments?
Minor changes may include:
Light fuzz or fluff removal (or added fluff)
Slight shape refinements
Small color or tone adjustments
One round of minor changes is included, so please be honest—I want you to truly love the final piece.
If any changes are needed, I’ll make the updates and send new photos once they’re complete. From there, final payment is due, and your needle-felted friend will be carefully packed and shipped to you.
For pieces up to 5 inches, the full process typically takes 7–10 days. Larger pieces may take a bit longer.
