We are constantly moving, rarely allowing for quiet or rest. It’s no wonder so many of us feel exhausted or disillusioned.
Over the last year, I’ve spent more time pausing and noticing how the natural world moves through each season, and how often we push against that flow.
We resist slowing down. We expect the same output year-round.
And when our bodies and minds protest, we wonder why.
So how do we ease that tension? How do we bring a sense of harmony back into our days?
We begin by inviting seasonal rhythm back into our lives.
Stillness, quiet, rest.
The days are shorter, grayer, colder.
Animals hibernate. Trees and plants draw their energy inward, conserving for the months ahead.
Even the creatures that stay active move with one clear purpose: survival.
I feel this natural shift in energy in my body every winter, and if you do as well, this is your invitation to slow your pace.
Put off starting too many new things or stretching yourself too thin when your body and the world around you are calling for rest.
Cultivate what’s already in front of you. Gather the energy you need for the rest of the year. Allow for more quiet moments and rest as nature sleeps.
Winter is not the season to force momentum. It is the season to reflect, refine, and restore.
For me, that looks like researching new animals to felt, sketching new sculptures, and planning for workshops.
Rebirth, growth, life.
The sun sets later and begins to feel warmer.
Buds are popping up on trees and bushes. Flowers push through the ground, opening with vibrant colors and cheer.
Hatchlings and baby animals enter the world.
For me, spring feels like the official start of the year. The anticipation of all that is to come in warmer days is exhilarating.
This is the time to lean into new projects, push yourself to grow, and make plans for the rest of the year. Embrace the fresh air and gather inspiration from the budding life around you.
Growth doesn’t mean overextending. Choose a few things and tend them well.
In my studio, that looks like felting new collections, experimenting with new techniques, and goal-setting for the months ahead.
Warmth, abundance, mindfulness.
The lazy days of summer are here. The freshest fruits and veggies are ready to enjoy. Bees happily buzz from flower to flower, birds flit about, and squirrels laze in the heat, carrying us through the longest day of the year.
After the season’s peak, humidity and heat rise as the days shorten ever so slowly.
Summer is a beautiful time to flourish and continue building on the momentum gained in spring. Keep growing, refining, and connecting with your passions and the world around you.
Bask in summer’s warm haze.
For me, I continue to create, whether that means starting something new or building on what’s already in progress.
Introspection, rest, letting go.
The leaves are browning and falling. The air is crisper. Nature begins to shift and slow down. Animals prepare for winter, stockpiling food and readying nests.
It gets darker earlier, and the pull for rest grows.
Autumn invites us to slow down, look inward, and reflect on the year.
What worked well? What did we accomplish? What are we ready to let go of?
Fall is my favorite time to express gratitude and appreciation for all nature has to offer. A perfect time for quiet walks with intentional observation.
Though there is some sense of ending, that doesn't mean progress stops.
My creativity continues to flow as I refine what's in the works, but at a slower, more reflective pace.
When we align our lives and our work with the natural flow of the world, growth becomes even more likely, with Creativity and rest existing side-by-side, season after season.
