Handmade for the Holidays

Handmade for the Holidays

Since I can remember, the world has seemed to grow louder and more chaotic year after year.

I notice it most right now, with the shorter, colder days, and the holidays quickly approaching. There’s this gentle tug between wanting so badly to slow down, while the rush of the season keeps everything moving fast.

If you’re like me and searching for ways to bring a little slower living into this time of year, you’re in the right place.

Handmade with Intention

One of the simplest ways to invite that slower pace in is by making some of your gifts by hand.

“But how will I find the time?” you might be thinking.

That’s the beauty of it, you create it. You pause. You get intentional. And you’d be surprised how the time shows up when you allow yourself to slow down.

Trust me, I get it. With a three-year-old, some days it feels impossible to get anything done. Add in more kids, busy schedules, and long to-do lists, and the days blur together.

But that’s exactly why there’s something so special about a handmade gift. Store-bought just doesn’t compare.

Handmade doesn’t have to be extravagant.

Keep it sweet and simple with:

  • a jar of dried fruits, herbs, and spices for a cozy simmer pot

  • dry ingredients layered in a jar for an easy sweet treat

  • everything-but-the-broth, ingredients for a hearty soup

You could even get your kids involved. For example, my son has helped me pick out the wool for some of my felted critters that we’ve gifted to family and friends. It makes the pieces even more special knowing I had a little helper, especially when he remembers their favorite colors.

No time? No problem

Now, if you’re really strapped for time, this is your gentle reminder to shop local. Shop small.
Small businesses and artists thrive because of your support, and handmade gifts still carry that same intention and heart.

Take me or any needle-felting artist who creates nature-inspired pieces. These felted creations make meaningful, one-of-a-kind gifts for anyone you know who loves wildlife. It’s a perfect way to bring a piece of nature indoors for them to enjoy.

This season, and life for that matter, doesn’t need to be rushed. It can be simple, intentional, and filled with meaning.

And sometimes that begins with the smallest handmade touch.
